About Doctoral Dissertation:

As new knowledge producers, universities and research institutes (hereinafter – research organizations) are at the forefront of research-oriented enterprises, national governments and even international organizations. Their expectations for high-value added research and development and innovation (hereinafter – research) results oblige research organizations to search for various solutions facilitating a wider scope and greater degree of new knowledge results for business and society. However, despite numerous academic works on science-business cooperation or research organizations’ societal impact, scholars within the strategic management field have not yet suggested efficient incorporation of research organizations’ partners within a research organization’s strategy, especially when seeking greater value within its research performance. Therefore, the research question of this dissertation is what impact research organizations’ partners have on the relationship between a research organization’s dynamic capabilities and its research performance. To address it, the dissertation reviews theoretical and empirical research findings within strategic management and knowledge management perspectives. Then, the developed research model based on the unique triangulation of the theoretical foundation was tested using data collected from research organizations operating in Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The dissertation ends with recommendations regarding formulation, development, implementation and review of research organizations’ strategy that encompasses business, academic and social partners to achieve better performance within a highly competitive environment.
